RIIHAN301A Operate Elevating Work Platforms

Koolat Safety is committed to providing quality training to industry and as such only delivers Units of Competency from National Training Packages. This competency surpasses the requirements of the old Yellow Card. The yellow card issued by the EWPAA is not a Unit of Competency from a National Training Package. 

This one-day ewp training program focuses primarily on the construction, mining, manufacturing and related industries, where staff need to have the correct training to operate Elevating Work Platforms.

Recommended For:
This unit of competency covers the functions required to operate boom type elevating work platforms (boom length 11 metres or more) to meet minimum training and assessment standards for the purposes of certification.

Types of EWP:   

EWPs include scissor lifts, boom and knuckle boom lifts with a boom length under 11 metres are classified as:

  • Trailer Mounted Boomlift (TL)
  • Self Propelled Boomlift (BL)
  • Vertical Lift (VL)
  • Scissor Lift (SL)

What does this unit involve?

  • Assessing and securing equipment and work area

  • Securing and transferring load of boom type elevating work platforms

To obtain your qualification you are required to undertake:

  • Initial training by Koolat Safety (1 day)

  • Supervised hours (under a licensed operator) operating the machine. These hours must be logged into an official Log Book

  • Final assessment

Logged Book hours required for full certification: 60

On successful completion of the RIIHAN301A Black Coal mining qualification, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for this machine is issued.

Course Pre-requisites:

  • Course participant will be required to present Koolat Safety with a current Generic Induction Passport to Coal Mining prior to course commencement of the RIIHAN301A Operate Elevating Work Platform

  • Participants are advised to hold intermediate numeracy, literacy and communication skills to read and comprehend written instructions and be at least 18 years of age

  • The participant needs to be able to work at height and perform physical tasks

  • Drivers Licence or Passport (required for course registration)

Statements of Attainment that include all six Standard 11 units of competency will also be accepted. Note: Statements of Completion or Statements of Attendance will NOT be accepted.

Dress Requirements / Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Hard hat

  • Long Sleeve Shirt and Hi-Visibility Vest

  • Long Pants

  • Steel Cap Safety Boots

  • Safety Glasses

Note: No entry is allowed to the Koolat Safety Industry Skills Centres training areas unless mandatory PPE is worn by the student.

Important Information:

  • Students should have basic reading and writing skills (to be able to identify and interpret workplace signs)
  • Payment is required prior to the course commencing please contact us for details. EFTPOS facilities are available at our office
  • Advise us of any LLN difficulties prior to commencing your training program

Course Credits:

Course Credits will apply to all students enrolled to complete a course where a current Generic Induction Passport cannot be provided prior course commencement.

This unit does not cover powered telescoping devices, hinged devices, or any combination of these used to support a platform of 11 metres or more.
