Course Description:
In October 2011 a revised Department of Transport and Main Roads Approved Traffic Controller course was released in conjunction with a fully revised Traffic Controller Accreditation Scheme Approved Procedure (TCASAP).
From 31 January 2012 all Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) delivering the approved traffic controller course, must deliver it in accordance with the new departmental training requirements.
The course, comprising the national competency unit RIIOHS205A Control traffic with a stop-slow bat is to be delivered in two parts.
Course Delivery Method
Part One – Face-to-face theory approximately eight (8) hours: Both a theoretical and a simulated practical component.
Part Two - Industry placement at roadwork site. Participants must complete a minimum of 20 hours of practical experience at a roadwork site under the direct supervision of an experienced accredited traffic.
The RTO is responsible for ensuring the participant has access to a suitable work site and to ensure all appropriate arrangements are in place with the work site manager or registered traffic management company host to ensure appropriate supervision and monitored logbook completion.

This training course has been designed by the Queensland Government Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) in order to accredit individuals with the skills and knowledge required to become a Traffic Controller in Queensland. This course is delivered by Koolat Safety who is an Accredited Traffic Control Training Provider.
On successful completion of this course and issuing of the Traffic Controller Licence from Queensland Transport, trainees in the resources and infrastructure industries will be able to demonstrate the correct method for installation/removal of signs and devices in accordance with traffic management plans and controlling traffic using a STOP/SLOW bat in accordance with approved procedures set by the Queensland Government allowing participants to gain employment in the Traffic Management Industry.

- On successful completion of this refresher training the ‘Statement of Attainment’ MUST ACCOMPANY the application form for processing.
- Licence Applications are lodged at most Queensland Transport Customer Service Centres. The approximate processing time for licence applications is between 3 and 4 weeks due to the time required for criminal history checks although this time may vary in some cases. Applicants are not permitted to work as a Traffic Controller until they receive their Licence.
- Traffic Controllers are required to undertake a refresher course every three years in order to maintain their accreditation and currency.
Participants are advised to hold intermediate numeracy, literacy and communication skills to read and comprehend written instructions and must be at least 18 years of age.

- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have held an open or provisional drivers licence (Australian or Foreign) continuously for at least 12 months in the past 5 years
