Course Description:

The refresher program will provide the trainee with updated information related to ammendments to the legislative requirements and guidelines of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management – Accreditation and other provisions) Regulation 2005.

This will include, but is not limited to, updates to:

  • Approved PPE for Traffic Controllers in QLD
  • Authority to control traffic.
  • Speed limits for controlling traffic.
  • Responsibility for Traffic Controller Ahead signs.
  • Location of traffic control station.
  • Correct procedures for controlling traffic.
  • Communication with the public.
  • Two-way radio communications and protocol.
  • Controlling traffic at night.
  • Reporting offenders.
  • Removing or covering signs when not controlling traffic.

    This training course has been designed by the Queensland Government Department of Main Roads in order to refresh individuals with the skills and knowledge required to maintain their accreditation as a Traffic Controller in Queensland. This course is delivered by Koolat Safety who is an Accredited Traffic Control Training Provider.

    • Licence Renewals are lodged at most Queensland Transport Customer Service Centres.
    • Licence renewals are generally processed on the spot however in some cases they may be delayed for further processing.Traffic Controllers are required to undertake a refresher course every three years in order to maintain their currency and accreditation.

    This is a refresher course available for students who need to renew their traffic control licence. They must complete this course within 3 months of the expiry date on their licence. Candidates must supply a copy of thier traffic controller licence or equivilent interstate licence in order to participate in this course. 

    Students are to wear STEEL CAP SAFETY BOOTS and appropriate PPE

    Important Information;

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Must have held an open or provisional drivers licence (Australian or Foreign) continuously for at least 12 months in the past 5 years

     The latest Traffic Management Code of Practice requires all Traffic Controllers to have an OH&S Induction (White Card) or equivalent in order to work on construction sites.
