Course Description:
To remain current, accredited traffic controllers must undergo training and remain familiar with the Traffic Controller Accreditation Scheme - Approved Procedures (TCASAP), relevant parts of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), and any relevant changes to road rules. The approved refresher training course is a prerequisite for accreditation renewal and includes assessment against full course competencies that can generally be undertaken in a shorter duration than the full training course.
If the person renewing their traffic control licence is able to demonstrate that RIIOHS205A has been completed previously, the minimum assessment requirements for the refresher course will include:
- Written assessment on the theory component as per the requirements of the full training course (RIIOHS205A Traffic Controller Accreditation Scheme).
If the person renewing their traffic control licence is unable to demonstrate that RIIOHS205A has been completed previously, the minimum assessment requirements for the refresher course will include:
- Written assessment on the theory component as per the requirements of the full training course (RIIOHS205A Traffic Controller Accreditation Scheme).
- Demonstration of competency in a simulated environment.
- Confirmation of practical experience based on third party reports or a letter from your employer outlining experience in the industry.

This training course has been designed by the Queensland Government Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) in order for individuals to renew their Traffic Control licence and to remain current as a Traffic Controller in Queensland. This course is delivered by Koolat Safety who is an Accredited Traffic Control Training Provider.
On successful completion of this course and issuing of the Traffic Controller Licence from Queensland Transport, trainees in the resources and infrastructure industries will be able to demonstrate the correct method for installation/removal of signs and devices in accordance with traffic management plans and controlling traffic using a STOP/SLOW bat in accordance with approved procedures set by the Queensland Government allowing participants to gain employment in the Traffic Management Industry.

- On successful completion of this refresher training the ‘Statement of Attainment’ MUST ACCOMPANY the application form for processing.
- Licence Renewals are lodged at most Queensland Transport Customer Service Centres.
- Licence renewals are generally processed on the spot however in some cases they may be delayed for further processing.Traffic Controllers are required to undertake a refresher course every three years in order to maintain their currency and accreditation.
This refresher course is available for existing Traffic Controllers who need to renew their Traffic Control licence. They must complete this course within 3 months of the expiry date on their licence. Candidates must supply a copy of their traffic controller licence or equivalent interstate licence in order to participate in this course.
Students MUST WEAR enclosed shoes and appropriate PPE
Important Information;
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have confirmation of practical experience based on third party reports or a letter from your employer outlining experience in the industry.
- Must have held an open or provisional drivers licence (Australian or Foreign) continuously for at least 12 months in the past 5 years
