BSB41407 Certificate IV in occupational health and safety

This qualification is aimed at people who work, or wish to work, as OHS Coordinators, Safety Officers or Safety Advisors at a workplace. This qualification would suit an Occupational Health and Safety officer in a full-time dedicated role who works under the supervision of an Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator or Occupational Health and Safety Manager.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for the entry level Certificate IV in occupational health and safety course and there are no restrictions on entry, however participants are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instructions for:

  • Consulting with Persons Conducting Business Undertakings (PCBUs) about safety issues

  • Preparing workplace health and safety reports

  • Referencing and understanding legislation, standards and codes of practice

Pathways into the qualification

Participants may enter the qualification through a number of entry points including:

  • BSB30707 Certificate III in Occupational Health and Safety or other relevant Certificate III qualification; OR

  • with extensive vocational experience in an occupational health and safety role

Examples of indicative job roles for participants seeking entry based upon their vocational experience include:

  • Safety Advisors

  • Health and Safety Representative

  • Health and Safety Committee Member

  • Health and Safety Assistant

  • Workplace Health and Safety Officer (WHSO)

Delivery

This competency based course is delivered face to face with other options available as outlined below. Qualification rules require that a total of 9 units be selected and completed.

  • BSBOHS401B Contribute to the implementation of a systematic approach to managing OHS

  • BSBOHS402B Contribute to the implementation of the OHS consultation process

  • BSBOHS403B Identify hazards and assess OHS risks

  • BSBOHS404B Contribute to the implementation of strategies to control OHS risk

  • BSBOHS405B Contribute to the implementation of emergency procedures

  • BSBOHS406C Use equipment to conduct workplace monitoring

  • BSBOHS407A Monitor a safe workplace

  • BSBOHS408A Assist with compliance with OHS and other relevant laws

  • BSBCUS401B Coordinate implementation of customer service strategies

  • BSBRSK401A Identify risk and apply risk management processes

Assessment Method & Statement Issued

Participants who demonstrate competency for all the selected units will receive the BSB41407 Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety issued by Koolat Safety. Participants who complete individual units will receive a “Statement of Attainment” for those units. Those participants who attend the course, but do not complete course work and assessments will receive a “Statement of Attendance”.

Full Face to Face Delivery:

  • Cost - $1950.00

  • Duration – nine (9) days classroom based delivery divided into three (3) blocks

  • Course Inclusions – Comprehensive participant handouts and workbooks are provided.

  • Enrolment details - A completed application form received with a non-refundable fee of $350 to Koolat Safety confirms the applicant’s enrolment.

The remainder of the course fee is $1600. The amount must be paid prior to the commencement of the course.

Self-Paced:

  • Cost - $ 1950.00

  • Duration - Self-paced in your own time

Course Inclusions - Comprehensive participant handouts and workbooks are provided. Trainer can be contacted for assistance or guidance.

Enrolment details

A completed application form received with a non-refundable fee of $350 to Koolat Safety confirms the applicant’s enrolment. For applicants who are eligible for funding, the remainder of the course fee ($1600) will be funded by Construction Skills Queensland. All applicable funding applications and submissions will be organised by Koolat Safety.

  • First Cluster: The initial course package comprising the first 3 units of competency will be sent to the applicant. The first phase of the course is expected to be completed and assessed within a 4 month period.

  • Second Cluster: Upon completion of the initial class block, we will forward the next 3 units of competency. Again this phase of the course will follow as with the First Cluster allowing for a 4 month period of completion.

  • Final Cluster: Once the assessments have been completed for the previous, the final units of competency will be dispatched to the applicant. Once fully assessed and competence has been achieve the applicant will receive a Certificate qualification.

Bridging Course:

  • Cost - $750.00

  • Duration – Self-paced in your own time

  • Course Inclusions – Comprehensive participant handouts and workbooks are provided.

  • Enrolment details – A completed application form received with the full course fee of $750 to Koolat Safety confirms the applicant’s enrolment. A non-refundable cost of $350 is inclusive of the course fee.
