Verification of Competency

Verification of Competency (VOC) assessment is a pathway that employers should take to confirm that their staff are competent operators. VOC assessment is a method to insure that your staff can operate your machinery safely and in accordance with site requirements. VOC also means a substantial dollar saving to you by having your operators assessed to confirm that they are competent before operating equipment rather than finding out later that they are not competent and valuable machinery has been damaged due to poor operator skills and knowledge.

Assessing for Verification of Competency has been successfully used by many industries for pre-employment checks or prior to contractual employment. VOC assessments can also provide an alternate pathway for individuals to maintain their eligibility to operate equipment. As way of an example, if an employee’s Certificate of Competency to operate a Forklift Truck safely had recently expired and the operator is obviously still competent to operate the Forklift Truck, they could easily demonstrate their skills via a Verification of Competency Assessment.

The VOC would only be needed to check that they are still competent. This eliminates the need to attend any additional formal training. It also reduces work down-time and all those extra unnecessary costs associated with consequential down-time.

Your employee or potential employee would need to submit to Koolat Safety verifiable proof that they are qualified to perform the tasks specified. We would require evidence such as log books, testimonials and/or letter(s) from employer(s) stating their employment in this capacity. If however the Verification of Competency Assessment found that they were not competent? They would then be advised of any Gap Training that might be required in order for the operator to be deemed competent again and Koolat Safety can offer such training provided that it is covered in our scope.
